NI100 Centenary Committee
The NI100 Centenary Committee formed in December 2019 and had participants from various community organisations as well as representatives from various political parties.
The committee’s main aim was to ensure that right across Northern Ireland a legacy is created and that a roadmap towards the next 100 years of Northern Ireland. Various legacy projects were undertaken included a bronze bust of Sir James Craig, 1st Viscount Craigavon, Northern Ireland’s first Prime Minister, as well as Centennial benches and granite stones.
The committee’s focus was on education and providing an educational resource in line with the curriculum that can be utilised in all schools. In addition they focused on Northern Ireland’s rich heritage and culture, great minds and innovations, food and drink and sports and entertainment.
Due to the pandemic events that were planned for 2021 have now been resheduled and events will take place until May 2022.

The Northern Ireland Homecoming, a year in which Northern Ireland can welcome the world to take part in a unique celebration of all that the country has to offer.

Northern Ireland has over 660 bands encompassing Melody Flute, Blood and Thunder Flute, Silver, Accordion and Pipe.

A physician, cardiologist, and professor who transformed emergency medicine and paramedic services with the invention of the portable defibrillator.
A sculptor from Portadown who changed how broken bones are treated by using a plaster cast. The plaster cast treatment is still used to this very day.
An inventor who developed the three-point linkage system for the modern tractor, which revolutionised agriculture global.

The Nutty Krust loaf has a distinctive hard crust and over the years has won various awards including the title of Northern Ireland's most iconic product.
Bushmills' celebrated malt whiskey has won numerous prizes in international spirits competitions, including the only gold medal for whiskey.
Tayto is the third largest snack manufacturer in the UK. One in every five packets of crisps eaten in Northern Ireland is Tayto cheese and onion.

George Best is regarded as one of the best players in the history of the sport. He was named European Footballer of the Year in 1968.
Ruby scored ten hits in the UK Singles Chart between 1954 and 1959. She also made pop chart history by having five hits in the Top Twenty in a single week.
Hurricane Higgins was a professional snooker player who is remembered as one of the most iconic figures in the game. World Champion in 1972 & 1982.
Primary Education Resources to Celebrate Northern Ireland 100 years
These resources were produced by the Somme Association in conjunction with the NI100 Centenary Committee's Education working group.
The resources include two reading books and associated curricular activities, suitable for pupils in Foundation and Key Stage 1. A further series of online resources have been developed for pupils in Key Stage 2 linked to key aspects of the NI Curriculum.
Resource 1 - “Granny Remembers” - Aimed at Primary 1 and 2. Granny was born in 1921, the same year that Northern Ireland was born. Her great grandchildren, twins Nora and Daniel have come to visit her. They want to celebrate her special birthday too.
Resource 2 - “Happy Birthday Northern Ireland!” - Aimed at pupils in Primary 3 and 4. The story is about twins Nora and Daniel who go on a birthday party road trip with their mum to find some things they will need for Northern Ireland’s birthday party. But they have no place to hold the birthday party! Can they solve this problem?
Resource 3 – “I Am Northern Ireland” – Aimed at Primary 5 – Primary 7. This resource covers five main areas – “Northern Ireland is Born”, “Let’s Explore some Food and Drink”, “Industries Past and Present”, “Our Creatives” and “Our People.”
These resources have been written by educational practitioners and adhere to all aspects of the effective planning, learning and teaching of the NI Curriculum. Within the resources, ideas have been presented for pupils with additional needs.
