As the 75th Anniversary of the Korean War approaches, the Ancre Somme Association Charity reflects upon the sacrifice made by those who served in the Korean War.
The Korean War started on the 25th June 1950 and lasted for three years. More than 100,000 British service personnel were involved with over 1000 never coming back, a further 2674 were wounded and 1060 reported missing or taken prisoner.
It is sometimes referred to as "The Forgotten War" or "The Unknown War" because of the lack of public attention it received. This is your opportunity to show the Korean War veterans that they have not been forgotten.
Your fundraising activity, as part of our 75Korea Challenge, will go directly to help the Ancre Somme Association Charity commitments of Education, Remembrance and supporting our Armed Forces Charities.
Walk, run, or cycle 75 Kilometres in 2025 and raise £75 as part of our 75Korea Challenge.
The Korean War, also known as the Forgotten War, was a significant conflict that involved British soldiers. The war took place from 1950 to 1953 and was a result of the division of Korea into North and South after World War II.The British soldiers who fought in the Korean War played a crucial role in the conflict.
They were part of the United Nations forces that were sent to defend South Korea from the invasion of North Korea. The British troops faced many challenges, including harsh weather conditions and a determined enemy. Despite the difficulties, the British soldiers fought bravely and made important contributions to the war effort.
They were involved in several major battles, including the Battle of Imjin River, where they held their ground against a much larger North Korean force. The Korean War is often overshadowed by other conflicts, such as World War II and the Vietnam War.
However, the sacrifices made by the British soldiers who fought in the Forgotten War should not be forgotten. Their courage and dedication to defending democracy and freedom are a testament to the bravery of the human spirit.
