Having lived in Belfast for almost forty years, Mr. Haines served as the Head of the History Department (1977-2000) and Archivist (2000-present) at Campbell College. He was also the Honorary Secretary of the East Belfast Historical Society for twelve years and on the Management Committee of the Federation for Ulster Local Studies Ltd.
In his presentation to a full house at the charity's headquarters in Brownlow House, Mr. Haines focused on the life of Col. Crawford. Drawing on thorough research for his book, he provided insight into Crawford's life before and after the Larne Gunrunning of 1914. Those in attendance gained a deeper understanding of this founding father of Northern Ireland.
After his presentation, Mr. Haines took time to answer questions and sign copies of his book. The Ancre Somme Association thanks him for generously giving his time to share his knowledge and bring history to life.
His book is available through the charity's online shop by clicking the link below.
